Scope
1.1
This Standard prescribes requirements for the classification and certification of chromium and chromium-nickel covered steel electrodes for shielded metal arc welding.
This includes electrodes designated for welding heat-resistant steels containing more than 11% chromium and less than 50% nickel.
1.2
Electrodes specified in this Standard are classified according to the
(a) chemical requirements of undiluted weld metal (Table 1);
(b) electrode covering and the usability characteristics of the electrode (Table 2); and
(c) mechanical properties of the weld metal, in the as-welded condition (Table 3).
1.3
Any electrode certified under one classification is not certified under any other classification.
Note: The classification system is explained in Clause A1.2 of Appendix A.
