In 1976 the Ninth Air Navigation Conference considered there was a need for a manual on modern methods for the provision of meterological information to ATS units and the use of that information by those units. This aim of this manual is to meet the general intent of the expressed requirements and also provide information regarding the coordination between search and rescue and meteorlogical services.

This sixth edition of the manual updates the exisiting chapters and appendices to reflect the relevant amendments that have been made to the ICAO Annexes and includes material important to the coordination between air traffic and meteorological services.
