Scope given in clause 1 of JIS C 2814-1 and the following shall apply.

This Standard applies to connecting devices with insulation-piercing clamping units primarily suitable for connecting unprepared conductors.

In the connecting operation, the insulation of the conductor is made ineffective by piercing, boring through, cutting through, removing, displacing or some other manners at the point(s) of contact.

NOTE 1 In this Standard, connecting devices with insulation-piercing clamping units are referred to as IPCDs (Insulation-Piercing Connecting Devices).

NOTE 2 The International Standard corresponding to this Standard is as follows.

IEC 60998-2-3 : 2002 Connecting devices for low-voltage circuits for household and simllar purposes – Part 2-3 : Particular requirements for connecting devices as separate entities with insulation-piercing clamping units (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21.
