This Standard specifies the automatic or manual ultrasonic examination on the welds of carbon steel pipes and ferritic alloy steel pipes (hereafter, referred to as steel pipes) whose internal and external surfaces are arc welded automatically in longitudinal direction or in spiral state, and which are 350 mm or over in outside diameter and 6 mm or over in wall thickness.

Usually, this is applicable to the examination of flaws oriented parallel to the weld line.

NOTE 1 For the detection of flaws oriented perpendicular to the weld line, this Standard is usually applicable upon the agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.

NOTE 2 The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows:

ISO 10893-11: 2011 Non-destructive testing of steel tubes-Part 11: Automated ultrasonic testing of the weld seam of welded steel tubes for the detection of longitudinal and/or transverse imperfections (MOD)

The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEC Guide 21-1.
