This Standard details definitions, methods of measurement, and
minimum performance characteristics for Code Division Multiple
Access (CDMA) mobile stations. This Standard shares the
purpose of [4] (and subsequent revision thereof) by ensuring that a
mobile station can obtain service in any cellular system that
meets the compatibility requirements of [4].

Compatibility, as used in connection with this Standard and [4],
is understood to mean that any mobile station is able to place
and receive calls in any CDMA system. Conversely, all CDMA
systems are able to place and receive calls with any CDMA mobile
station supporting operation in the same band.

Test methods are recommended in this document; however, methods
other than those recommended may suffice for the same
purpose.

The performance metrics in this Standard require a mobile
station to provide a single antenna connector for testing.
Mobile stations having multiple antenna, such as for
receive diversity, shall provide a single antenna connector
for testing. If a mobile station has more than one antenna
connector, only one connector shall be used for testing.
Additional requirements specifically for multiple antenna
configurations, i.e. receive diversity, are for future
study.
