Provides suitable methods for the prediction, measurement, and assessment of sound from wind turbines. These methods may be applied during the processes of planning and developing a wind farm, then for confirming compliance with resource consent conditions covering sound levels, and also for the investigation and assessment of noise complaints about operating wind farms.

]]>
Sets out procedures and requirements for the prediction, measurement, and assessment of road traffic noise for new and substantially altered state highways and local roads. The Standard is intended to be used primarily by local authorities and road controlling authorities and seeks to promote quicker and consistent decision-making nationally regarding the management of road traffic noise. It also provides best practice guidance and advice on methods for mitigating reverse sensitivity situations and the environmental effects of noise exposure on nearby noise-sensitive activities. For the purpose of this Standard, where any project includes a mixture of new and upgraded existing roads the roading authority shall determine the relevant criteria to be applied to each section of the road for traffic noise mitigation.

Covers the measurement and prediction of noise from construction, maintenance and demolition work, and the assessment of such noise to determine whether action is required to control it. Intended to assist local authorities, developers, architects, engineers, planners, designers, and contractors to control noise on and from construction, maintenance and demolition sites. Includes detailed methodology for predicting noise from construction activities, and sound level data tables for a wide range of construction equipment.

Sets out procedures for the assessment of noise for compliance with noise limits, and provides guidance for the setting of noise limits for consent conditions, rules or national environmental standards. Assessment is based on a rating level which can be derived from simple and detailed assessment methods. These expand the methods used in the 1999 edition. Guidelines for setting noise limits and writing consent conditions have been revised, and guidelines for protection of health and amenity expanded to address common planning issues.

Defines basic quantities to be used for the description of sound in community environments and describes procedures for the measurement of these quantities. The procedures described are intended to enable consistent measurement of environmental sound for all conditions within the scope of the Standard. These procedures are referenced by other Standards in the Acoustics series. Users of this Standard are assumed to have a basic understanding of the science of acoustics and experience in sound measurement. The Standard may be cited in local authority rules, plans, and consent conditions or in National Environmental Standards to avoid the need for inclusion of technical information while ensuring national consistency in sound measurement methods.

This Standard defines the basic quantities to be used for the description of environmental noise and describes basic assessment procedures.

Environmental noise refers to (undesired) noise in general living environment.

NOTE 1 Annexes JA and JB provide outlines of provisions of JIS C 1509-1 regarding frequency weightings A and C, and time weightings F and S that are used as a basis for environmental noise assessment.

NOTE 2 Annexes JC to JJ provide outlines of measuring methods for different types of noise sources that are actually used in Japan to assess environmental noise in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations such as the Noise Regulation Act and the Basic Environment Act.

NOTE 3 The International Standards corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 1996-1:2016 Acoustics—Description, measurement and assessment of environmental noise—Part 1: Basic quantities and assessment procedures

ISO 1996-2:2017 Acoustics—Description, measurement and assessment of environmental noise—Part 2: Determination of sound pressure levels (Overall evaluation: MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.
