This Standard specifies phase advance self-healing capacitors for indoor use (hereafter referred to as "capacitors"), intended to be used for the purpose of power-factor correction in a circuit at an a.c. voltage not exceeding 600 V at power frequency by being connected in parallel to the load.

Annex JA describes the matters related to the series reactors for capacitors (kvar product) used as a receiving facility for reference.

Annex JB gives guidance for installation, maintenance and operation of capacitors for the purpose of reference.

NOTE: The International Standards corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

IEC 60831-1: 2002 Shunt power capacitors of the self-healing type for a. c. systems having a rated voltage up to and including 1 000 V-Part 1: General- Performance, testing and rating-Safety requirements-Guide for installation and operation

IEC TR 63396:2021(E) documents a method for the sound pressure level measurement on power capacitor units, by which the sound power level of power capacitor units is determined.
This method is applicable to shunt capacitor units and AC filter capacitor units for AC power systems with a nominal voltage of 1 kV and above and a frequency of 50 Hz or 60 Hz.
This method also applies to the DC filter capacitor units.
Other measurements on power capacitor units can be implemented with reference to this method.

IEC 63044-5-2:2017 is a product family standard that sets the minimum level of EMC performance for the HBES/BACS network in addition to the product EMC standards for HBES/BACS devices. It also applies to devices used within an HBES/BACS network for which no specific HBES/BACS product EMC standard exists. In addition, it defines EMC requirements for the interface of equipment intended to be connected to an HBES/BACS network. It does not apply to interfaces to other networks.
NOTE An example of other networks is a dedicated ICT network covered by CISPR 22 and 23.
This document specifies EMC requirements for HBES/BACS to be installed in residential, commercial and light-industrial environments, according to the definition given in IEC 61000-6-1.
