This Standard specifies the measurement methods of luminous intensity distributions and luminous flux of luminaires for general lighting incorporating electric light sources (an incandescent lamp, a fluorescent lamp, other discharge lamps and electroluminescent devices such as an LED).

If the measurement methods of individual luminaires are specified in the particular standards of luminaires, the particular standards shall apply.

The "luminaires for general lighting" for the purpose of this scope do not include the following.

However, this Standard may be applied to luminaires or light sources other than general luminaires, if it is applicable to those luminaires.

a) Luminaires used underwater

b) Luminaires for emergency exit sign in accordance with the Fire Service Act.

c) Luminaires for takeoff and landing of airplanes and obstacle light Luminaires

This Standard specifies the general rules concerning the performance requirements and the acceptance inspection for general purpose luminaires (hereafter referred to as "luminaires") for electric light sources (incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, other discharge lamps, electroluminescent devices such as LED, hereafter referred to as "light sources") with supply voltage of not exceeding 1 000 V.

The performance requirements, test methods and inspection of LED luminaires shall be as specified in Annex A and Annex B.

For items of which the requirement is also found in the particular product standards of luminaire, the requirement in the particular standards shall apply.

NOTE: The general purpose luminaires as referred to in the above scope do not include the following.

a) Those which are always used in sites where ambient temperatures are especially high or low

b) Those which are used in sites where dust particles are in plenty

c) Those which are used in sites where corrosive gases, etc. are generated

d) Those which are used in sites where inflammable gases, etc. are generated

e) Those which are used in sites where oscillation is intense

f) Those which are used by being sunk under the water

g) Luminaires and signal lamps for vehicles

h) Emergency luminaires stipulated by Construction Standard Law and luminaires for emergency exit sign by Fire Service Law

i) Luminaires for takeoff and landing of aircrafts and aircraft warning light fixtures

j) Luminaires for medical use

k) Luminaires made for the purpose of incorporating into a machine, furniture, etc.

l) Luminaires for photography

This Standard specifies requirements for photo and film luminaires (non-professional) (hereafter referred to as "luminaires") for use with tungsten filament lamps on supply voltages not exceeding 250 V, including low-pressure tungsten halogen lamps complying with unique lamp designation.

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

IEC 60598-2-9 : 1987 Luminaires.

Part 2 : Particular requirements.

Section Nine – Photo and film luminaires {non professional} and Amendment 1 : 1993 (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.

This Standard specifies requirements for handlamps and similar portable luminaires (hereafter referred to as "handlamps") which are held in the hand, hooked up or resting on a surface for use with electric light sources (an incandesecent lamp, a fluorescent lamp, other discharge lamps and electroluminescent devices such as an LED) on supply voltages not exceeding 250 V.

This Standard is applicable to handlamps which can be fixed to a support by means of a wing screw, clip or magnet (e.g. handlamps intended for shedding light under a vehicle and for use at a construction site.

Those intended for inspection of the interior of barrels in which tere is a risk of generation of flammable gas are not included).

Portable handlamps with grips, and luminaires used for inspection inside instruments.

NOTE 1 In Japan, the portable handlamps as shown in figure OA are popularly used.

NOTE 2 The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

IEC 60598-2-8 : 2007 Luminaires – Part 2-8: Particular requirements – Handlamps (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.
