Specifies the installation procedures for a pliable building membrane (also known as underlay) when it is intended to act as a sarking membrane or thermal insulation, or a vapour barrier in a domestic, commercial or industrial building. It specifies the installation requirements when the membrane is used under sheet roofing, tile roofing or in walls. <\/p>\n

Scope<\/b><\/p>\n

This Standard sets out the installation procedures for a pliable building membrane (also known as underlay) in any of the following circumstances:
(a) When it is intended to act as a sarking membrane or thermal insulation or a vapour barrier when installed in a building structure.
(b) When installed either independently, or as a facing to other materials such as insulation materials.
(c) When installed in domestic, commercial or industrial buildings. <\/p>\n

The installation of pliable building membranes in air-handling ducts and under concrete slabs are outside the scope of this Standard. <\/p>\n

NOTES:
1 Thermal insulation requirements are specified in AS 2627.
2 This Standard will be referenced in the Building Code of Australia by way of BCA Amendment 7 intended for publication in October 1994, thereby superseding the previous editions of AS 1736 – 1975 and AS 1904 – 1976, which will be withdrawn 12 months from the date of publication of this Standard. <\/p>\n
