Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n 1.1<\/span> This test method covers the determination of the apparent viscosity of hot melt adhesives and coating materials compounded with additives and having apparent viscosities up to 200\u2009000 millipascal second (mPa\u00b7s) (Note 3<\/span>) at temperatures up to 175\u00b0C (347\u00b0F).<\/p>\n Note 1:<\/span> Although precision has not been studied, this procedure may be adaptable to viscosities higher than the present 200\u2009000-mPa\u00b7s limit and temperatures above 175\u00b0C (347\u00b0F). Equipment described in this test method permits testing of materials having viscosities as high as 16\u2009\u00d7\u2009106<\/sup> mPa\u00b7s and provides temperatures up to 260\u00b0C (500\u00b0F).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Note 2:<\/span> For petroleum waxes and their blends having apparent viscosities below 15 mPa\u00b7s, Test Method D445<\/span> is especially applicable.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Note 3:<\/span> One pascal second (Pa\u00b7s)\u2009=\u20091000 centipoise (CP); one millipascal second\u2009=\u2009one centipoise.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n 1.2<\/span> The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard.
