The program calculates<br \/>\nnatural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes, and normal-mode<br \/>\ngeneralised masses and stiffnesses of the transverse bending and<br \/>\naxial modes of vibration, up to a chosen cut-off frequency. Lumped<br \/>\nmasses, to model in-line valves for example, and externally-acting<br \/>\nelastic restraints in the plane of the system may be treated. The<br \/>\neffects of bend flexibility may be included. The pipes may vary in<br \/>\ncross-section, or be of different materials, but the fluid is<br \/>\nassumed of constant density. The graphical data allow the<br \/>\nestimation of the fundamental frequency of a single pipe, or of<br \/>\nconfigurations with up to three right angle bends, subject to<br \/>\nadditional idealisations over those imposed by the computer model.<br \/>\nWorked examples illustrate the use of both methods.
